Home batteries
Home battery installation in Sydney and NSW
Store your solar, use it at night and rely less on the grid. We design and install batteries for new and existing solar systems.
Why add a battery
Get more from your solar
Use your solar at night
Store the excess solar your panels make during the day and use it in the evening, when power from the grid costs the most.
Rely less on the grid
Reduce how much electricity you buy and protect yourself from future price rises.
Backup power options
With a backup-capable system, essential circuits can keep running during a blackout. We'll explain which setups support this.
Virtual power plants
Join a VPP to earn extra value from your battery. In NSW this can also unlock an additional state incentive.

Are you eligible for the battery discount?
Answer three quick questions to see if you're likely to qualify for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and the NSW incentive for batteries connected to a virtual power plant.
–days until the battery discount steps down on 1 January 2027
Federal battery rebate
How the federal battery discount works
The Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes money off the upfront cost of an eligible home battery. It isn't a cash-back or a form you lodge: the discount comes from government certificates (called STCs) that your battery creates, and we take their value off your quote.
How much you get depends on three things:
- Your battery's usable size (kWh). Bigger batteries create more certificates, but the rate drops for capacity above 14 kWh.
- Your installation date. The number of certificates per kWh is cut every six months.
- The certificate market price. Certificates are traded, so their value moves a little over time.
Discount rate by battery size
For batteries installed 1 May – 31 Dec 2026
| Usable capacity | Rate applied | Certificates per kWh |
|---|---|---|
| First 14 kWh | 100% | 6.8 |
| 14–28 kWh | 60% | 4.08 |
| 28–50 kWh | 15% | 1.02 |
Capacity above 50 kWh receives no discount.
Next reduction
1 January 2027
The rate drops from 6.8 to 5.7 certificates per kWh. The discount is locked in by your installation date, not your quote date, so allow time for scheduling.
Your quote will show the exact discount for your battery. Program details last checked October 2026.
Your quote
What goes into a battery quote
Every home is different, so we quote each job individually. A battery quote is made up of:
- Battery. The battery itself, priced by usable capacity (kWh) and brand.
- Inverter. A hybrid inverter, or a battery inverter if your existing solar inverter stays.
- Installation. Mounting, cabling, commissioning, compliance certificate and network notification.
- Switchboard work (if needed). Older switchboards may need space or an upgrade to take a battery safely.
- Backup (optional). Extra hardware and wiring if you want essential circuits to run during a blackout.
Discounts shown clearly
Your quote lists the full price, the federal battery discount and any NSW VPP incentive as separate lines, so you can see exactly what you're saving before you decide.

Who can get the discount?
Most homes, small businesses and community organisations qualify. The battery must:
- Be installed by a Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited installer
- Be on the approved battery list
- Be connected to new or existing rooftop solar
- Be capable of joining a virtual power plant (joining is optional)
- Be between 5 kWh and 100 kWh (the discount covers up to 50 kWh)
Entratech is a New Energy Tech Approved Seller under the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC), and our batteries are installed by SAA-accredited installers. What this means for you
NSW incentive
Extra savings in NSW
NSW households can also receive a state incentive when their battery is connected to a virtual power plant (VPP), through the NSW Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. It can be combined with the federal discount.
The amount depends on your battery and the VPP provider. We'll confirm what's currently available and include it in your quote if you choose to join a VPP.

Add a battery to existing solar
Already have solar? Depending on your current inverter, we'll either add an AC-coupled battery or upgrade you to a hybrid inverter.
New solar + battery system
Panels, inverter and battery designed together from day one, so every part is sized to work as one system.

Home battery FAQs
How much is the federal battery discount?
Under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, the discount depends on the battery's usable capacity: the full rate applies to the first 14 kWh, a reduced rate from 14 to 28 kWh and a smaller rate from 28 to 50 kWh. The rate steps down every six months, with the next reduction on 1 January 2027. Your quote will show the exact discount.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
Yes, in most cases. We'll check your inverter and switchboard and recommend either an AC-coupled battery or a hybrid inverter upgrade.
What size battery do I need?
It depends on how much power you use in the evening and overnight, how big your solar system is, and whether you want backup power. We'll size it from your bills rather than guess.
Will a battery keep my power on during a blackout?
Only if the system is set up for backup. Not all batteries and inverters provide it, so tell us if it matters to you and we'll design it in.
Is there a NSW battery incentive as well?
NSW offers an additional incentive for batteries connected to a virtual power plant (VPP), which can be combined with the federal discount. Ask us about current amounts and eligibility.
Which areas do you install batteries in?
We install home batteries across Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast, Wollongong and South Coast.
